I understand how easy it is to lose touch. I know you already acknowledged that the solution would be to just do it..pick up the phone, write a note, but maybe you could try setting aside a little time (even just one hour a week) to do those little things. Or maybe re-start the conversation with your real life friends on-line and then move it back to the real world.
Good luck, hope you find a good balance!!

It is SO easy to get sucked in. It's so much easier to hit send than actually pick up the phone. Or to get wrapped up in someone else's drama then dealing with your own life.

I understand completely. It's hard to balance internet life with real life. After spending wayyy too much time online, I made myself stop using the internet at home for more than an hour per day. I go over sometimes, but I also skip the internet altogether other times. I've been a worse internet citizen as a result, but to me - but if I let myself get too caught up in the internet, I don't bother at all in real life, and then I find myself not being happy in general. I love my bloggy friends, but it is really nice to have real-life friends as well. I hope you find some balance soon.

I get so sad sometimes about my lack of "real life" friends, people with whom I could grab a drink or have lunch. Unfortunately, I often don't bother making plans with anyone. At the same time, though, I love my internet friends and I definitely think that those friendships are just as valuable to me.

I am completely addicted to the internet. I don't know what I would do without it. And I keep in touch with my online friends and my real life friends via the internet way better than I do in real life. You are not alone.....

I keep in touch with people online, too. Part of this is because most of my IRL friends have moved away (or I moved away), but part of it is for the reason you've mentioned: Online interaction takes place on my schedule. I understand the feeling.

It might be good to give up the internet for a week. You might realize that you don't really miss it. I'm sort of this way with TV, but the less I watch it, the less I want to. I can relate though, when they blocked all websites where I used to work, I was so mad! What was I supposed to do when I was bored??? I laugh now but it's true!

I put very strict self-imposed time limits on my internet usage. An hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. I allow myself a bit more slack on the weekends, but not much. During those extra hours, I make phone calls, send fun little notecards, and try and stay in touch with in real life friends. They deserve just as much time as my blog friends, after all! Good luck figuring it all out!

I definitely keep in closer touch with some of my blog friends than I do with one of my closest in real life friends. How sad is that? Every once in a while, I combat this by making an appointment in my calendar to call her or by just sending her a little note by mail. It's not the same as staying in good touch with her though.

My point is that I understand.
